AGM News
Thursday 23 June 2011
The constitution of the Precision Training sponsored Notts Senior League's three divisions was voted in by member clubs at the AGM held at Hucknall Rolls Leisure. With a number of clubs leaving the league, the NSL had a number of quality applications to replace them, some of which were accepted whilst four applications were rejected. Current proposals are for three leagues, each with 16 teams. Division One champions Ruddington bounce back into the top flight at the first time of asking, with Vernon Villa, who have much improved facilities at Vernon Park, and ROKO based Magdala, also coming up. Selston, formerly of the Midland Regional Alliance, are bringing two teams in - the first of which will also join the Senior Division
As well as Selston Reserves, NAA outfits Bingham and Burton Joyce both come into Division Two. All have excellent facilities and are sure to add to the overall standard of grounds within the league. West Bridgford Colts, whose set up at Adbolton Lane is as good as anything within the county, including a main pitch with floodlights, dip their toe into the water of men's football after many years as one of the most successful youth set ups in Notts and beyond, with Nottinghamshire and Ruddington also bringing new reserve sides in
Divison Two champions Southwell St Marys jump into Division One alongside Bilborough Town, whose name change from Chilwell Town will see them play at Birchover Park which previously hosted senior football for the now defunct Bilborough FC back in the days of the Notts Alliance. Carlton Town's Academy side also move up into Division One after a strong season, as do Nottinghamshire
'All in all this gives us three strong leagues' said NSL Chairman Kevin Presland. 'We're very pleased with the quality of the applications we received. All the new clubs bring something to the league and we're also very pleased with some of the strides our exisiting member clubs are making to improve both on and off the pitch. Fifteen of our forty eight sides will now have the ability to host home games under floodlights. Clearly we have faced challenges but when we started out, our stated aim was to provide a decent standard of football within Notts for clubs not wishing to incur to financial and infrastructure costs associated with leagues higher up. It's not only some clubs that don't want all the travelling and cost but individual players too. Our members tell me that a good number of quality footballers are choosing to stay local as they don't percieve it's worth it to leave early and get back late on a Saturday as well as face a number of journeys in midweek. We're very happy with our current offering - indeed we've had to turn clubs away and expect this trend to continue. We've had a number of teams who are on the up approach us with a view to coming in once they've secured either the appropriate facilities or a playing record and we will continue to work with our existing population to help develop what they have to offer. We have an excellent Committee and our track record shows we are prepared to sit down and work with clubs to nip problems in the bud before they develop so all in all we're very confident going forward. We'd like to thank those who have stuck with us through the recent choppy waters and we look forward to working with those committed to local football going forward'
Sandhurst's Bob Crawford was presented with the Secretary of the Year award, with Wayne Jones of double winners Boots Athletic voted Player of the Season in the Senior Division. In Division One this award went to Mark Ballard of Southwell City Reserves whilst the Division Two prize went to Chris Walker of Southwell St Marys. Jones' team mate Kevin Walker was top scorer in the Senior Division with Roy Sharp of Clifton Reserves coming out on top in Division One and Chilwell's Liam Webster's 43 goal haul winning the Division Two award
Notts Intermediate Cup winners Attenborough rounded off an excellent season by being voted Fair Play winners in the Senior Division by their fellow clubs. Hucknall Rolls Leisure Reserves excellent disciplinary record was a huge contributory factor in helping them win Division One Fair Play with Sandhurst Reserves reflecting Crawford's sporting approach to the game in Division Two
The NSL season will start this season on Saturday 13th August

They've granted us a 25 year lease, with the option of a further 25 years whilst the ground is being used for football. Magdala & Keyworth do Battle Again
Monday 23 May 2011
The Notts FA Saturday Junior Cup Final takes place for the second time at Arnold Town's Eagle Valley ground on Wednesday (7.30) after the original tie had to be abandoned at Carlton Town due to power failure. The game is an all NSL affair with First Division Keyworth United Reserves taking on Magdala Reserves from Division Two. With Attenborough having won the Intermediate Cup, the NSL is assured of having two of it's sides lift County trophies which is excellent news for the league. United, jointly managed by Alan Jackson and Dave Collison, are without five regular players but are able to call on the services of a number of non cup - tied first teamers to help the cause as they select from: Jennings, Hallam, Bradley, Richards, Cooke, Warren, Jackson, Bremner, Ravenscroft, Brown, White, Wooley, Shaw, Chilvers, Woolich, Marlow
Magdala must start as underdogs, however, based on the evidence of the first game, they have little to fear as they were probably marginally the most threatening side overall before the match came to a premature halt. They certainly have experience in abundance with John Bentley, Austin Weaver, Dan Ellis and Mark Curry very much to the fore and 16 year old Connor Naylor, recently released by Notts County, shows much promise on the right wing so it promises to be a close run thing. Dala will pick from: Morley, Charlton, Ward, Harrington, Poole, Haywood, Naylor, Omran, Curry, Speight, Weaver, Brown, Hyman, Bentley. Skipper Martin Kearns is on holiday. Jez King and Pat Hughes also miss out

Double Delight for Boots
Wednesday 18 May 2011
Precision Training Notts Senior League Champions Boots Athletic completed the league and cup 'double' by beating Hucknall Rolls Leisure 3 - 1 at Arnold Town's Eagle Valley
Rolls, who were beaten in the final last season by FC Cavaliers, began brightly in their quest to go one better but failed to convert their superiority into goals and The Chemists gradually wrestled control of the game to their advantage, resulting in former Notts County trainee Tommy Kemp giving them the lead with his 12th goal of the season with a quarter of the game gone. Rolls continued to press and Boots 'keeper Nick Grayling had to be alert to deny Andy Start and Kyle McDermott before Congolese striker Patrick Bakone showed great pace to slip the ball past Neil Waters to extend Boots lead on the half hour
After the break Rolls had the wind at their backs and used the elements to good effect, mounting wave after wave of attacks which culminated in Boots centre back Alex Bowles toeing an own goal past Grayling to give Rolls a deserved lifeline but try as they might, Jez Corthorn's side couldn't find the equaliser and Boots had a goal correctly disallowed for pushing as Martin Holt headed home
It was perhaps fitting that Boots forward Kevin Walker should have the final say though and, after failing to convert two opportunities to make the game safe, Walker, signed from Basford United in the summer, capped a memorable season as he latched onto Jack Smith's through ball to calmly chip Waters for his 38th goal of the season right at the death- rounding off a memorable season for Boots, managed by Alan Perks, Steve Tasker and Mark Whysall
