2.10.04 Magdala Amateurs 3-0 Premium Athletic (Notts FA Intermediate Section Cup Round One)
This game was pretty much over at half-time, with Magdala racing into a commanding 3-0 interval lead. With the wind at their backs, save for one 25-yard effort from the Premium attack which shaved a post, Magdala dominated the first half playing the better football and looking much more dangerous in front of goal. They took the lead through a Stuart Robinson tap-in on 15 minutes. A curling Nunudy free-kick from the left was spilled by the Premium goalkeeper and Robinson was left with the simple task of tapping in to an empty net. Magdala's second came 10 minutes later. From a corner, the ball was returned to Nundy on the right who hit a rasping cross-shot which the keeper did well to palm away. The ball was knocked back into the area by Ellis, then after some good play involving Aungles and Timpson on the right, the ball fell to Robinson who squared the ball across the goal to Ellis who tapped in to make it 2-0. The Magdala 3rd was a little controversial. Although certainly fouled on the edge of the box, Aungles - rampaging forward in an unfamiliar right-midfield roll - seemed to make the most of the challenge and flung himself to the ground. A penalty was awarded which Ells proceeded to dispatch to the keeper's right and Premium went in at half -time feeling aggrieved to be 3-0 down. To Premium's credit, they refused to lie down and worked hard in the second half and but for some fine saves by Magdala's deputy keeper Jamie Thomas, might have got back into the game. Struggling to play into the wind, Magdala still managed to create 4 or 5 good chances which Premium did well to clear, most noteably when Ellis side-footed wide when his hat-trick seemed certain and when Aungles had 2 efforts to score excellently blocked on the line.
Overall, a deserved Magdala victory to take them into the next round. Final score: 3-0 (Ian Nundy Magdala Amateurs)
